With the Christmas or Holiday season upon us, and as a woman, I thought it would be a good time to start talking about some of the perfect items to purchase for the geek on your shopping list.
I, for one, am in the shopping mood, but when I get into the stores and hear Christmas music blaring already...even worse, most of it is BAD Christmas music, I truly get annoyed. So, I ineviably come home and look at all the shinies online. Maybe I am not so ready for Christmas this year, but ready or not...Thanksgiving is almost upon us and then Christmas will be here before we know it.
For the next several weeks, I thought I would talk about different fun items you can purchase for the geek on your list. Right now, since the retail section of this site has not launched, of course my suggestions won't com from here. But don't be surprised to see me plug a few things from our own brick and mortar stores brave enough to jump into this great project and offer their swag to geeks everywhere at great competitive prices!
This week, I start cheep. My husband, who works at the giant beast otherwise known as Walmart, came home from work and said he had seen a watch he really wanted. This annoyed me at first, because I bought him a $100 Timex watch that is broken and just needs to be sent off on the lifetime warrenty to be fixed. But lo and behold, I listened to him and it made me smile. It was the perfect geek gift...
A stokcing stuffer extraordinaire: a calculator watch! Just like the ones they used to make in the 80's (for those of us old enough to remember those). I have mentioned it to a few other of my male geeky gamer friends and each of them responded in the very same way..."Awesome! I want one!"
Walmart, of course, carries two version of this amazing calculator watch. There is a $19 dollar version of it, that just does basic functions and tells time. Then, there is the crazy digital databank version that stores all kinds of data, what geek doesn't like silly digital bells and whistles. The more complicated version, however, costs more than double the simplified version. So it all depends on your own budget and how mind-bogglingly entertained you want your geek to be.
Even funnier than the calulator watches...for the geek who hates to have to get up from him computer search for his remote control, there is actually a watch that doubles as a universal remote control. Seriously? I thought it sounded pretty stupid, but when I told my husband he, of course, thought it sounded pretty cool.

It always cracks me up when I come across someone online, especiallly in some MMO like WoW, who sees that I am playing a girl avatar and wants to know "if I am really a girl."
My first inclination is to tell them it's none of their business, but I always try to avoid the drabble and annoyance by just giving them the simple and straight forward answer - "yes." But then, 8 times out of 10, I get someone who wants to argue. "No you're not. You're lying," or something seriously stupid like that.
Okay, I know the OLD saying "There are no girls on the interwebz," but let me tell you boys, we are here and we are here in great numbers. Even better, there are a good number of girl gamers who are - get this - actually fairly attractive! Whoa right?!
Gone are the days where geek men should only have to sit in their basement and dream of cons where they can hope to brush up against a booth babe and that would be the closest they get to the fairer sex in a 365 day span.
No, women like geeks. Get up and out of the basement, take a shower (don't forget to wash your hair) and show off those glasses, those gaming aptitude and your mad computer skills, because gamer women want to find geeky gamer men!
The future of the world is ours for the taking! Gamers and geeks unite!
Okay...maybe I am getting a little too excited, but seriously, maybe I have something here. All the gamers, geeks, computers nerds...the whole nine yards...we unite, marry, make children that aren't stupid and we can take over the world! That would rock!
